We don't celebrate

This summer marks our 11th anniversary together.  This month we also celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary (twice!).

But the thing is... we don't celebrate.  We don't celebrate anything.  We don't get each other Christmas gifts or birthday gifts (I sometimes break that rule).  We don't get each other anniversary gifts.  If it wasn't for our marriage license and our second wedding, we probably wouldn't even remember our wedding date(s).

We don't have an official anniversary date for when we first started dating, like most people do.  I just know that we started going to the movies and Dairy Queen together the summer before our junior year in high school.

Andrew didn't propose to me, so we don't have a date for that either.  I was visiting Andrew in Ann Arbor, MI when he was working on his Masters and we just decided one night, "hey, let's get married, but surprise everyone." And that was that, no grand proposal, no engagement ring, and it was perfect.

I know what you're thinking, "C'mon.  You have to celebrate something!"  Eh, not really.  For our first anniversary of our first wedding last year we were visiting my family in Minnesota (talk about romantic: spending the weekend with my parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.)  This year for our second anniversary of our first wedding, we had our gender reveal party with our friends and family (so I guess we do celebrate our little baby girl!).  And Restaurant Week in Madison usually falls just before the date of our second wedding, so we just go out to dinner and we would do that even if it wasn't our "anniversary."

Well, I figured that since we rarely do any celebrating, why not have a belated anniversary dinner.  And funny thing?  This is actually the date we wanted to go to the Capitol to get married, 7/11/11, but I had class in Milwaukee that day, so we had to go with 7/7/11.

Salad made with lettuce, spinach, and radishes from our garden, cucumbers and kale from our CSA box.
