17 Weeks, Baby #2

December 20, 2015

How far along? 17 weeks BIG
Maternity clothes? oh yes.  The belly is here to stay and there's no fitting it in regular clothes.  No one puts baby in a corner, apparently.
Stretch marks? yes :(
Sleep: Insomnia to the max and waking up to go to the bathroom, flip over, or to put C on the potty
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): We got to see Baby last week at a 16w ultrasound!  Big sister C is also now potty trained and is very proud of herself :)
Miss Anything? energy, not having headaches
Movement: little taps and punches when I am hunched over
Food cravings: nothing
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing is appealing so I guess everything would fall in this category
Have you started to show yet:  Ha!  I should post a comparison pic of C at 17weeks.  There's no denying that I'm pregnant.  I guess baby didn't like being hidden for so long as we slowly crept towards the second trimester and closer to the "safe" zone.
Gender prediction: ???
Labor Signs: nada
Symptoms: tired yet have insomnia until about 12am, headaches, hip pain, no appetite
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: The beginning of this week was rough as we were in the beginning stages of potty training and I did not feel well all weekend.   My nausea is almost gone (yay!) but the headaches have started which make me really cranky.
After our ultrasound this past Monday, it's all started to sink in more and become more real.  We weren't letting ourselves get too attached, but now that the bump is big and we know everything is going well, we're starting to get really excited about all the big changes coming our way.

Dear baby,

It's still hard to believe that in just 5 short months, you will be joining the Loeffler chaos.  You have no idea how excited your big sister is (although she might be more excited for her big girl bed right now).
You are already so loved by so many people.  I feel so fortunate and grateful to not only have a wonderful family, but amazing friends who have been so supportive throughout our journey.  You have so many people rooting for you and anxiously awaiting your arrival in May, little one.  And although I would rather not be 41 weeks pregnant like with your sister, I would rather that you come later and be healthy than come early.
Once the holiday craziness ends, I know the next few months will fly. It's a lot different this time.  We don't have a nursery to get ready or a crib to buy.  Don't worry, I will make your room extra special (but I'm not sewing your new curtains, kid, sorry).
You have no idea how much we love you, little one.
Love,
mama

For those who care to see, C's pregnancy at 17 weeks and número dos:

Funny thing is, this week I thought I was HUGE.  Turns out I was huge with C too, HA!

What do you think: Boy or Girl?

Now that we have announced our pregnancy, everyone has asked if we will find out the sex.
My answer: DUH
I hate not knowing.  I need to be prepared.  I need to know if we need to go buy boy clothes or if we're set with the bins and bins of girl clothes in the basement.  I just need to mentally prepare myself.

We will be finding out soon (I'm not saying when exactly because then everyone will be asking on that date. Don't worry, we'll announce). I thought it would be fun to take a little poll to see what everyone else thinks :)

I'm notoriously wrong for guessing sex/gender.  I'm never right.  I was only right with my brother-in-law and his wife.  I thought C was a boy (or I had at least convinced myself she was).  With this baby I have no inclination either way.

So here's a little comparison between C's pregnancy and baby número dos:

Symptoms with C:
  • chronic back pain (from the first trimester on, it was awful)
  • no nausea except for one day in week 16
  • loved sweets and french fries
  • insomnia and fatigue
  • still had lots of energy: ran into week 22, walked 5-6 miles a day until week 39
  • heartburn towards the end
  • Chinese calendar said Girl
  • high heartbeat always over 140 (girl)

Symptoms with número dos:
  • nausea throughout first and into second trimester (only after eating)
  • no appetite
  • super moody
  • can't eat lots of sugar - nausea
  • can't eat for more a few bites of chocolate - heartburn
  • so tired all the time
  • Chinese calendar says Boy
  • Ramzi theory says Boy
  • high heartbeat always over 140, usually 160-170 (old wives' tale says girl)
  • horrible skin and breakouts
  • headaches

I know that every pregnancy is different, so all these symptoms are no indication of sex/gender, but it's SO different from C's pregnancy.

So what do you think?
BOY or GIRL?

14-16 weeks: Baby #2

11/29/15
How far along? 14 weeks
Maternity clothes? a mix between the two
Stretch marks? I found new ones :( But that's what happens when the belly grows faster
Sleep: still on progesterone, so once I can actually fall asleep, I'm good
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): felt baby moving around Thanksgiving
Miss Anything? life without heartburn and hip pain
Movement: little taps and flutters every few days
Food cravings: not much
Anything making you queasy or sick: nausea after I eat
Have you started to show yet:  oh yes, there's no hiding this one, although I've only gained about 4lbs so far (way different than C)
Gender prediction: I have no clue now.  I thought boy in the beginning, but now I don't know.  I want another girl, Andrew wants a boy

12/6/15
How far along? 15 weeks
Maternity clothes? yes, unless it's leggings or a non-maternity shirt that is more flowy.
Stretch marks? yes :(
Sleep: ok,  but now waking up every few hours to flip over because my hips hurt.
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): seeing our Marquette family and telling them about baby!
Miss Anything? eating without feeling nauseous after, being able to work out (or have the energy to)
Movement: little taps and flutters every once and awhile
Food cravings: fruity candy (skittles or fruit snacks) and cheese, crackers, and chorizo (or some other sausage, SO not like me)
Anything making you queasy or sick:eating in general
Have you started to show yet:  very much so.  I'm sporting an 18-20w bump that I had with C.
Gender prediction: ???

12/13/15
How far along? 16 weeks
Maternity clothes? good God yes
Stretch marks? yes :(  This belly grew too fast
Workouts: BarreAmped and Knocked Up Fitness Prenatal Sculpt
Sleep: insomnia at its finest
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): After a scare this weekend with some bleeding due to a hemorrhage, we were thrilled to be able to see our healthy, growing baby on the ultrasound!
Miss Anything? sleep
Movement: little kicks and punches here and there.  Definitely different from the tiny bubbles a few weeks ago or even at this point with C.
Food cravings: nothing
Anything making you queasy or sick: most anything.  Food is still not my friend (which is why I have only gained 3lbs).
Have you started to show yet:  Oh yeah.  I'm sporting C's 22w bump.
Gender prediction: I really have no clue at this point.  We're just happy with a healthy baby.

Dear sweet baby,

You have no idea how excited and thrilled we are to have you.  I'm so happy that you are growing big and strong!  After the bleeding I had this weekend, I wasn't sure what to expect (even though I checked on you with the Doppler every day to make sure you were still beating in there).  We breathed a huge sigh of relief to know that you are doing good and the hemorrhage isn't affecting you at all.

Your big sister is getting so excited to meet you!  She has been practicing with her baby dolls. She's definitely in for a rude awakening (we all are), but she will be so happy to have you.

Keep growing!  We can't wait to see you again at the 20 week ultrasound!

love,
mama

Weeks 6-9: Baby #2

6 Weeks

10/4/15
How far along? 6 weeks
Maternity clothes? Not yet, but I am so tempted to bust out the maternity jeans.  I don't even bother trying to suck it in, just wear baggier clothes.
Stretch marks? no new ones... yet
Sleep: I have a hard time falling asleep and then I'm up every few hours to go to the bathroom
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): finding out that we're pregnant and getting numerous beta tests done to make sure the levels are rising!  (We won't talk about how many pregnancy tests I have taken over the past 2 weeks.
Miss Anything? having more energy, not feeling like I'm going to puke
Movement: nope
Food cravings: carbs carbs and more carbs.  Nothing is appealing at all.  I think I may live on granola bars the next few weeks though
Anything making you queasy or sick: everything, just being awake.  It gets way worse after I have eaten
Have you started to show yet: lots of bloat, but only that I really notice.
Gender prediction: It's anyone's guess until 20 weeks.  I want another girl and Andrew wants a boy
Labor Signs: nada
Symptoms: tired, nauseous, bloated, cramps, irritable
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: ugh so moody and irritable.  My fuse is much shorter.  We're also nervous to see what the next few weeks will bring.  After having two miscarriages, it's hard to be super excited about anything because you know it could all end.  But we're feeling pretty optimistic this time around!

7 WEEKS
10/11/15
How far along? 7 weeks
Maternity clothes? nope, just hiding in big college sweatshirts
Stretch marks? just the old ones, but I'm trying to keep new ones at bay with Zoe Organics Belly Butter
Sleep: I have the hardest time falling asleep, but then the progesterone makes me dizzy and knocks me out.  Unfortunately, because I couldn't fall asleep, I don't get as much sleep as I would have liked
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): spending time with family
Miss Anything? not feeling so bloated and nauseous at night
Movement: nope
Food cravings: nope
Anything making you queasy or sick:middle of the afternoon is usually the worst in general
Have you started to show yet: so bloated
Gender prediction: hoping for another girl! but would be thrilled with a boy.  Don't care as long as he or she is healthy
Labor Signs: nada
Symptoms: fatigue, bloat, nausea, dizziness, irritability
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: trying to think very positive thoughts, but still leaning more towards moody

8 WEEKS
10/18/15
How far along? 8 weeks
Maternity clothes? nope, still rocking the college sweatshirts
Stretch marks? not yet, but I know they're coming
Sleep: same as the past few weeks, too little and so tired in the morning
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): I thought I felt the baby move on Friday (10/16) as I was putting Charlee to bed.  I know it's way too early and it's probably just gas, but it reminded me when C used to move around
Miss Anything? SLEEP
Movement: maybe?
Food cravings: anything sour (sour gummy worms), refried beans
Anything making you queasy or sick: chicken, just the thought of it sounds gross.  I defrosted chicken breast to make at the beginning of the week and they are still sitting in the fridge because it just disgusts me
Have you started to show yet: just bloat
Gender prediction: girl, fingers crossed! 12 more weeks until we find out
Labor Signs: none
Symptoms: fatigue, bloat, nausea, dizziness, irritability
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: both. So excited for our first ultrasound on Monday (10/19)! We're really hoping to see a healthy baby, growing on schedule, with a strong heartbeat. Last time we did this in February, the outcome wasn't so great, so we're very excited but even more nervous.

9 WEEKS
10/25/15
How far along? 9 weeks
Maternity clothes? I did bust out the maternity jeans for a few hours because it was just too uncomfortable
Stretch marks? Sadly, I think I'm already starting to get new ones :( even though I use Zoe Organics Belly Butter every night.
Sleep: Insomnia for the first few hours and then I'm out cold due to the progesterone I'm taking, which is good and bad because then Andrew is the only one to wake up with Charlee or the dogs
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): Seeing our baby at the 8w u/s!  Baby is measuring perfectly and has a heartbeat of 173!!  We were so incredibly nervous because flashback just 8.5months ago and the outcome wasn't so good.
Miss Anything? Not having heartburn all the time and being able to eat without feeling sick.
Movement: no
Food cravings: nope
Anything making you queasy or sick: random foods and smells.  Spaghetti sounds absolutely disgusting and the smell of the sauce will send me running to the other room.
Have you started to show yet: yes.  The bloat is out of control
Gender prediction: I really really hope we have another girl, but I have a feeling this is a boy
Labor Signs: none
Symptoms: acne (bad), heartburn, dizziness, cramps, fatigue, mood swings
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy this week because we got to see our baby!  My mood swings have been out of control though.

Dear baby,

I can't believe we've made it this far!  After our ultrasound, things are becoming much more real.  We are so incredibly happy that you are growing strong and we can't wait to see you again in a few weeks.

Your big sister talks about you, but I don't think she fully understands what is going to happen.  She probably thinks you will be like a baby doll, silent and still.  She also thinks you will be a girl :)

We are still in disbelief that our family is growing and we will be adding you to the mix in May.  We have hoped for and dreamed about you for so long.  You have no idea how much we love you already and we want to you to keep growing and be healthy.

Love,
mama

Weeks 10-13: baby #2

How far along?10 weeks
Maternity clothes? no, but pants get tight at night
Stretch marks? yes/no.  Still the ones from C, but I think they might be getting darker
Sleep: up a few times a night with C
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): finding baby's heartbeat on the doppler!
Miss Anything? energy
Movement: no
Food cravings: no
Anything making you queasy or sick:certain smells and random foods turn me off
Have you started to show yet:  so much bloat!  It's getting harder to suck in, but it's all bloat
Gender prediction: I really really want another girl, but I just know it's a boy
Labor Signs: no
Symptoms: fatigue, nausea, bloat, headaches, dizziness
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy (with the occasional mood swings).  I breathed a sigh of relief when I was able to hear the heartbeat on the Doppler that I bought.  I have been able to find it consistently every time I check.

11/8/15
(This pic is no baby and all bloat. I wish I would have sucked it in)
How far along?11 weeks
Maternity clothes? still trying to hold off, but might break down to buy a belly band (which I never did with C for some reason)
Stretch marks? trying to keep them at bay
Sleep: progesterone still knocks me out, but Charlee has been waking up one or two times a night
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): We got a surprise ultrasound when I went for my 10w finger prick and flu shot!  I had some cramping the week prior and my OB asked if I wanted to do an u/s just to check.  Charlee got to see her baby brother or sister on the big tv and hear the heartbeat.  We have a picture on the fridge that she likes to say "hi" to.
Miss Anything? feeling like myself.  I just feel rundown most days
Movement: I thought I felt little bubbles popping the other day, but I know it's still early
Food cravings: ugh nothing
Anything making you queasy or sick:eating too much, eating too much sugar, smells
Have you started to show yet:  the bloat is real.  I can't wait until it's actually baby because I'm tired of playing the "fat or pregnant" game.
Gender prediction: I'm really thinking it's a boy, especially after the u/s and seeing where the placenta is (based on the Ramzi theory).
Labor Signs: none
Symptoms: fatigue, dizziness, out of breath, nausea
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: This week was a happy week! (with some tears thrown in)  Happy to know that baby is doing well and has a strong heartbeat of 173 still.  Charlee talks about the baby just about every day and knows there's a baby in my belly (although now she thinks there's a baby in her belly and dad's belly too).

11/15/15
How far along?12 weeks
Maternity clothes? no, but I did buy a belly band to hold up my pants at the end of the day (I never had one with C, just went straight to maternity)
Stretch marks? no
Sleep: insomnia and then a toddler with a cold, enough said
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): getting to hang out and play with my sweet Charlee Bear

Food cravings: NONE
Anything making you queasy or sick:food
Have you started to show yet:   lots of bloat
Gender prediction: ???
Labor Signs: n/a
Symptoms: fatigue, nausea, moody

Stretch marks? no new
Sleep: insomnia and a toddler who wakes up at 4:50am on the dot. Every. Morning
Best moment this week (or the past few weeks): getting to see Baby at our 12w u/s!  Charlee was not too thrilled (we had a rough morning before the appointment and Daddy had to work), but she was happy to have the pictures.
The not so great thing was finding out that my hemorrhage is still there, but we get another quick ultrasound at our 16w appointment.
We also told Glammy, Pops, Grandma, and Grandpa about baby
Celebrating Big Sister Charlee for her 2nd birthday party!!  We had so much fun playing with all of her little friends and eating donuts. :)
Miss Anything? eating without feeling yucky

Gender prediction: ??? still leaning towards boy
Labor Signs: none
Symptoms: same as every week
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody most of the time: a mix.  This week was a little stressful with the ultrasound and getting everything ready for Charlee's party.  But we are very happy to be moving into the 2nd trimester and can breathe a bigger sigh of relief.

Our babies

I have sat on this post for a long time, trying to figure out when the best time to publish it.  I considered the September due date, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance in October, but none of them seemed right.  If you were to ask me when we were having another baby or anything about pregnancy, I gladly spilled my guts about our miscarriages and struggles.  I think about our babies every single day, but for some reason, I just couldn't share it on social media yet.  There were some people I wasn't ready to tell.

I hate that miscarriage isn't talked about and is considered a taboo subject.  It happens so much more than you think, but no one says anything.  And I hate that I have contributed to that.  Yes, I have told many people about our babies, but I haven't shared openly to every single person to decides to read this blog or Facebook.

I started writing this post to chronicle our pregnancy in January 2015.  We were so excited to finally be pregnant again after 8 months of trying (4 rounds of meds), but also terrified of having two babies 22 months apart.  Sadly, our baby left us in February.  So I sat on this post a little longer, thinking I would publish when we were pregnant again.  Mother's Day rolled around and I couldn't stop thinking about our two babies: Charlee and our baby in heaven.  I decided I would finally publish it (which is why it starts off with Mother's Day), but it just didn't seem right.
I found out I was pregnant again right before Mother's Day (so I think that is why I felt the need to publish the post), but something wasn't right.  I worried that I tested too soon and it was the trigger shot in my system.  I took numerous tests, emailed my dr too many times, and soon the tests got lighter and lighter until they were negative.  I was 5 weeks pregnant and we only knew about our baby for just one week.  On May 16, we lost our baby.

So this post is such a hodge-podge of emotion and words. It's hard to explain miscarriage to someone who has never dealt with it. The high of finding out you are expanding your family and the absolute low of finding out that the baby you dreamed of will never come home with you, you will never see it, hold it, name it.  But I think of them often.  Not a day goes by that I don't think about our babies that we will never hold.  It wasn't the right time for us or them, but they were loved.

-------------

As I sit here on my second Mother's Day with Charlee, I am reflecting on just how thankful I am for that sweet silly girl in my life.  She made me a mommy.  She made Andrew a daddy.  Everyday she makes us laugh (and sometimes want to pull our hair out) and we love her more and more each day, if that's even possible.  But even though I am so very thankful for that spunky toddler who is supposed to be going to sleep right now, I can't help but thinking of the sweet little baby that we will never be able to bring home, who we will never hold in our arms.

I have struggled the past 3 months with when to share this with the world.  Miscarriage isn't something that typically comes up in conversation, in fact, it's the norm to not talk about it in our society.  I have spoken to a few friends about it, but figured that I would probably hold onto this post until we were ready to have another baby and then share it.  But this sweet baby is someone who I think about daily.  I think about how I would be 22 weeks pregnant and we would be getting ready to welcome a new baby brother or sister into our family in September.  I think about that little baby because he/she also makes me a mommy.

So this Mother's Day, I'm celebrating my silly Charlee bear and my sweet little baby in heaven.  I love you both.

--------
This post was started to chronicle our second pregnancy from weeks 5-8 and was the only post I was able to write.  We had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. Baby was measuring 2 weeks behind at just 6 weeks at our first ultrasound on February 2nd and lost its little heartbeat a few days later.  I had a D&C on February 6th, a day after we found out we would not be adding to our family in September and struggled to come to terms with the term "miscarriage" because I never thought it would happen to us.

 February 5th, 2015

Dear sweet baby,

We saw you at your ultrasound Monday.  You were so tiny, too tiny.  You were measuring two weeks behind but you had a sweet little heartbeat of 116.  My heart grew heavy and sad, but I stayed optimistic since you had a heartbeat.  I thought maybe you just implanted a little late and were a little slow to get going, but I was hoping you would catch up by next week.

Needless to say, you had me worried, little one.  We went to check on you today, but you decided it just wasn't your time.  Your sweet little heart was no longer beating.  I sobbed for you, little baby.  You weren't with our little family long, but we already loved you so very much.  We looked forward to meeting you in September and showing you to your big sister.  I know that you and God had other plans.  Even though you didn't get any bigger than a pea, my heart still aches for you.  I don't ever think it will stop.  I will probably think of you a million times a day for a very long time, especially in September.

Just know that your big sister, your daddy, and I loved you so very much.

Love always,
your mama

I spy....

I spy with my little eye...

something BIG coming in May!!

24 months! The BIG 2!!

November 24, 2015
STATS
Weight: 30 pounds
Height: 36 inches
Clothes: 2T and 3T

FOOD
The picky eater is becoming more and more adventurous again (thank, God).  Although, if you look at these pictures, you would think that all she eats are donuts and cookies :D

C and I did a little sugar cookie baking and decorating together.
The end result was delicious and deserved a "thumbs up!"
 Donuts with Daddy
 Chocolate face

PLAY
Charlee loves having dance parties with Daddy after dinner
She also likes to say "cheese!" whenever you have your phone or camera out
And she likes to dress herself (especially wearing daddy's socks)
C got a new kitchen for her birthday!

She loves baking cookies in it :)
We work out together in the morning.
And we love to color together.
After Thanksgiving, we got out the little tree (no big tree this year since we will be traveling).  Charlee loved putting the ornaments on and loves to look at the lights every night.
We met our BFF Aubrey at the library a few times this month.  These two girls love each other!

VIDEOS

TOT SCHOOL
Mama slacked on Tot School this month.  Thankfully, Charlee goes to Seventeenth Radish for school twice a week for an hour each time so she gets the interaction and school atmosphere.

We did some fall bag decorating with stamps and stickers.
And made ghosts with shaving cream paint.  BOO!
I switched out her shape/color sort window to a jack-o-lantern (she was not as thrilled with it.  It's now a donut window).
We practiced making shapes and lines with pasta
Charlee shoved different sized pom poms in the tubes to see how fast they would come out.  Some got stuck so she had to use a stick to get them out!
(Another beautiful outfit!)
We gave our animals a shaving cream bath.
C has mastered the pinching of the clothespins! She loves to match the colors.
She also color sorted and counted her counting bears.
And decorated a duck with glue sticks and paper.

OUTINGS
Halloween!
Charlee wore her costume to her dance class and had lots of fun!

We went trick-or-treating at Hilldale with Glammy.  Once she figured out that you get candy for saying "TREEE" and "hang you!," life was good.

On Halloween, we went down to Stoughton to see our best friend Bowen and go trick-or-treating downtown.  Maybe next year we'll venture out in our neighborhood.

Oh sweet girl,

I can't even believe that another year has gone by and you are TWO!  I feel like we just brought you home from the hospital and you were so tiny.  You are definitely a big girl now and you like to do things yourself.

You definitely keep us laughing with all of your funny sayings, dance moves, and silly faces.  You are quite the ham (although not in front of people you don't know or haven't seen for awhile).  You love to play with your friends and are very silly with them (Bowen and Aubrey being your BFFs).

You love to play pretend and cook in your kitchen. You're always bringing someone something to eat or drink that you whipped up in your kitchen. You will also pretend with your baby dolls (changing their diaper, feeding them, putting them down for a nap) and your Little People animals (having them eat out of the trough or drink from the well).

You LOVE to go to school!  You would stay all day if I let you (and if I could afford it).  I'm so glad that you have the opportunity to interact and socialize with other kids and adults.  And I'm thrilled that you are learning Spanish now :)

You are looking more and more like a big girl and less like my little baby (although you do still want to be a baby sometimes and ask the be held and rocked like a baby).  You are always on the move with dancing or running your way through life.

OUTTAKES/SELFIES

The squishy face is my favorite.
