Family Reunion in Lutsen Part 1

*Follow via Bloglovin and Facebook*

This past weekend, we all ventured up to Lutsen, MN (only about 70 miles from Canada) on Lake Superior for a family reunion on my mom's side.  More than 40 people came from Illinois, Seattle, Oregon, Oklahoma, and a few other places in between.  It was a weekend filled with great-aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins, second cousins, third cousins, and my own aunts, uncles, brother, Lauren, mom, and dad.  For me, it was a little overwhelming (especially being pregnant) because I get overwhelmed with these types of events very easily and with so many people, but it was fun to spend time with family in such a beautiful place.

*Be prepared for photo overload.  Also the reason why this is only part 1.*

My parents, Andrew, Sam, Lauren and I made the long car ride up to Lutsen on Thursday and Friday.  Once we got to Duluth, we were driving along the lake the rest of the way there, so it was a much more enjoyable ride.  And when we finally arrived at the resort, this was our beautiful view for the weekend.

And a view of our townhouses from the other side of the resort.

Friday night was spent eating burgers and brats with everyone as they arrived and reintroducing ourselves to people we hadn't seen in 5+ years.

The next morning, we were up bright and early for breakfast and then to do a little hiking and exploring.

First up, a trip to the lake to dip our toes in and practice our rock skipping.

Mimi dipping her clothes into the cold Lake Superior waters.

 Then a little hiking.

 Andrew exploring the waterfall.
 A little afternoon family shuffleboard.

 Afternoon hike.
 Look what I found!
And then we found Poppi exploring on his own, so we hiked with him for a bit.

We found a little secret beach.
And Andrew tried to tell me that we could either take the path or climb up the tree to get back. (I opted for the path (so did he, that's about as far up as he got))

Exploring the concrete little house by the waterfall
The ginormous bugs they have in northern Minnesota!
 Wine and Beer night
Aunt Deborah explaining about all of the Minnesota wine and beers.
 Fish boil for dinner
 chatting with family
Marcia bellying up to the bar
The big finale to the fish boil (which we resulted in some burnt grass.  Shhh, don't tell the resort)
 Carrying the fish in.

And then I must have been concentrating on eating not taking pictures. We also took some family photos which are on my aunt's and uncle's cameras, so hopefully I can post those in Lutsen Part 2.
