Porch remodel week 1

Welcome to Week 1 of our porch remodel!  Yes I know, November is not the ideal month to be doing a remodel on the house.  Really, it's cruel and unusual punishment for the poor construction workers.  Fear not, I plan on providing them with hot coffee and cookies next week!

We actually started this process way back in August.  We had been debating on doing the basement or the screened in porch.  Well, the porch is cheaper and less labor-intensive, so that was the first step.  Of course, I asked Andrew for weeks to find a company and call them for an estimate back in June/July.  Obviously that didn't happen, so I took matters into my own hands and called a few companies.  We settled on Waunakee Remodeling and are so happy we made that decision.

Well, after you have the first estimate and consultation, work doesn't start right away.  Fast forward about 4 meetings later and lots of decisions to be made and we're finally making progress in the chilly month of November.

On Day 1, they demoed the existing beat-board walls.

They were not happy that I was outside and they had to stay in.

Day 2 included framing the walls for the windows.
There will be a long horizontal window at the top.

4 picture windows on the main wall.

This will be a sliding glass door.
Day 3: more framing!  It's starting to look like a room.
The picture windows.
